Joe Lipari, aka "JR", grew up on the mean streets of suburban New Jersey and joined the US Army after graduating Manchester Regional High School. An expert marksman and Infantry Team Leader with the 3rd Infantry Division, Joe led 4-6 man fire teams in training missions that include Mount Peak (Ft Drum), the Joint Readiness Training Center (Ft Polk), and the Leadership Reaction Course (Ft Benning); before becoming an advisor to Honeywell for the Land Warrior System. Due to an injury sustained in training, Joe was Honorably Discharged.
Since leaving the military Joe has spent more than 20 years working as a creative by day in NYC & LA; previous clients include MTV, HGTV, Netflix, NBC/Universal, Viacom, Sony Pictures, Pfizer and Coca-Cola. By night, Joe Lipari works as a comedian in the US and abroad, a frequent guest at comedy shows in New York, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels and Osaka. His award winning short film, Dream Job (2012) was made while Joe was a student of Vojtěch Jasný's at NYFA, it has screened at film festivals in the US, Italy and Turkey. Joe has also been featured on shows like Fox News' Stossel, NPR's This American Life, on countless radio shows and in independent films like My Last Best Friend. Joe has also been cut out of major Hollywood movies like Eat, Pray, Love and The Dark Knight Rises.
Because of Dream Job, Joe was offered a scholarship to finish his BFA at The School of Visual Arts in New York City. Joe graduated from SVA's competitive Advertising/Design program with Honors; where he studied with Richard Wilde, Gail Anderson, Kevin O'Callaghan, Louise Fili, James Sprouse and Milton Glaser. After spending two years managing the creative department for the BK Nets & NY Islanders (2018 and 2019 seasons) Joe was recruited by Troops to Teachers to fill teaching vacancies in NYC's under served communities and is on schedule to earn his MFA in Creative Writing & Pedagogy from National University in Spring 2021.
Active in the wellness and mental health communities, Joe is a certified yoga teacher & wellness practitioner who has led classes in New York, Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Berlin. An avid hiker/climber, Joe has climbed Mount Fuji, completed the Kumano Kodo and is making plans for fat tire mountain biking the Camino de Santiago.
As a volunteer with Hire Heroes Joe has helped un/under employed veterans find sustainable employment and with Troops to Teachers Joe helps recruit veterans to fill teaching vacancies in NYC. On top of all that, Joe is an ordained agnostic theist minister with Universal Life Church and is a founding member of the Church of Universal Suffrage.
